In recent times "2012 armageddon" has become a very common statement to be heard from many people who believe that this will be the world's fate. Many people call it the year of reckoning; others think it is just nonsense and the question then becomes is this prophecy true or false.
The prophecy of armageddon 2012 stems from the ancient Mayans who devised a calendar called The Long Count Mayan calendar that has as its last year, the year 2012. According to this calendar, the end is set to occur during the winter solstice on December 21. So because of this, there are many people who are predicting horrible events which are certain to occur and which will culminate in our world being destroyed.
The Mayan calendar ends on what they called the end of the Great Cycle, which has been translated to mean that the world will end. This is due in part to the fact that many scholars believe the Mayans to be adept at astronomy and mathematics, and that they were knowledgeable in interpreting what the heavens were revealing to them at that time.
The 2012 predictions make a lot of people uneasy. Could the Nostradamus and 2012 Mayan predictions really mean anything? Have the Mayan's really foretold of the end of time? Perhaps if the 2012 predictions and prophecies are true, the most important question we should ask is, "What kind of legacy will humanity leave behind?"
When you consider what the present day Maya think about the whole thing, you might be quite surprised. When asked about 2012 they generally state that they have no clue about it, especially since the long count calendar is not even used by them today. So what do you think? Is this simply something that makes a great story?
No matter how you view it, in the long run you need to think about this. Remember what happened at the end of 1999 when everyone thought computers would stop working. Did they?
